Under the Sea for October

I used a fish cut from some of Laurel Burch's fabulous fabric for my Under the Sea BJP for October. Laurel passed away in September, so this is my tribute to her & her wonderful art...

Isn't Laurel's choice of colours fabulous?

The fish was backed & lightly stuffed with fiberfil to give him a 3D effect. His body is bead embroidered & the fins are woven with Peyote stitch, which allows them to 'float' as fins should.

    yes, I was also sad to read of laurel's passing as I've also loved her work for many years. She's certainly left a huge legacy of art behind her...

    What a wonderful piece. It is definately the type of thing I'd love to hang on my wall and look at during the day. It's one of those piece's that just makes you smile.

    Thank you Karen. I'm pleased Laurel's family is continuing to share her wonderful designs with us & I hope they do so for a long time. I see her fabrics all over the place, one of the nurses who was in attendance when Joe had his surgery was wearing a shirt from Laurel's fabric.

    Thank you Diana, my husband has positioned this piece where it catches the light 'just so' & it does make me smile when I see it. He tells me I should make more of this kind of piece - Maybe I will ;9
