365 Project - Monday 20/10

Caught Red Handed x 2

I picked some Mulberries this morning & while cleaning & removing the stems before putting them in a pie, I found this tiny while spider in the bowl
He's smaller than the fingernail on my pinkie finger & is stained pink from the Mulberries just like my hands are.
He sure is a cute little guy, I left him on my maidenhair fern on the deck, hopefully he will be able to avoid the darn Indian Miner bird, that eat every spider & bug in the garden

365 Project - Sunday 19/10

A world without honey bees would not be a world at all

Our bees are dying at a rapid rate.

Charles Darwin once said that “The life of man would be made extremely difficult if the bee disappeared.”

So it’s safe to say that Darwin, if he was still alive, would be more than a little concerned to know that over fifty per cent of the world’s honey bee population have died.

Why should you care? Because bees are responsible for pollinating 70 per cent of the world’s horticulture and agricultural crops, so without them we simply would not have fresh fruit and vegetables - in fact, we would all starve within five years, because nothing could be pollinated.

365 Project - Friday 17/10

Rainbow web
Please click on the picture to see the detail

This is quite a small spider maybe about 2 cm long - 1 inch for you in the USA ;)
She is tucked away between a tree & the fence, but was in the sun this morning when I found her. I love that the web has become a 'rainbow' in several places

365 Project - Thursday 16/10

Feathers

I found these feathers while on my morning walk, I love the 'oil slick' colours on the side, they only show when you hold the feather a certain way. I think they come from the Crested Pigeon, which is pretty common in suburbia here in Australia. http://birdlife.org.au/bird-profile/crested-pigeon

Lady Bug, Lady Bug, fly away home..

Not taken as close as I'd have liked, but she wanted to run away from me - so it's heavily cropped.
Hopefully when I see her again I'll be able to get closer..

A new frond opening ever so slowly. This small fern grows in a gap in the brick wall which is out in the backyard.

Garlic

I love garlic, it's one of the staples in my kitchen, I eat it raw, steamed, baked, and I add it to almost every dish I cook.   Then there are the health benefits, and of course the taste!

Itsy Bitsy Spider

I sprayed her web, hoping to make it show up more, but she got her legs wet & had to get the water off them.

I cropped this one a lot, as she really was an itsy bitsy spider..

365 Project - Monday 06/10

I discovered this beautiful Bougainvillea spilling over the corner of a fence while out for a walk this afternoon.  I love how the pink vines trail over the white fence, it actually glowed in the late afternoon sun.

This is the last of the 'All Creatures Great & Small' theme for the 365 Project, I wonder what the theme will be for next week..

Time and travel

Well more about time really, I just realized that my blog is still on USA time while I am actually living in Australia.  So if the dates & times seem to be out of wack with what I post, that is the reason why..

Odd, but there doesn't seem to be much I can do about it at all..

 Just hanging around

I'm not totally happy with today's photo, but I ran out of daylight, so this is what you get.  Hopefully she'll still be there in the morning, the darn Indian Miner birds eat all the bugs in my yard.

Note.. it's now the next day & she was gone when I checked this morning, I really do hate those Indian Miner birds grrrrrrrrrrrr

Back to 365 Project finally

It has taken me almost 3 years to get myself back onto 365Project - Now that I am learning how to use my camera properly at last & not shoot everything on automatic.  I need a push to get out and about with my camera so here goes & I'm looking forward to it too.

Today's pic was taken with my Macro Lens, and yes it's the same pink Crucifix Orchid that grows in the back yard.  We had a heavy shower this afternoon so it was just perfect when I went out looking for something to be my first picture for the project

I named it 'After the Rain'

Some more from my camera class..

My sister Nancy came to stay with me for a few days after my daughter Liz's wedding, and our project for the week was a photo showing/using light in some way.  I took this early in morning while Nancy was having her first cuppa.  The sun was shining thru the window right onto Nancy's face.  It's quite a harsh light but I like the picture.

This next picture is one we did in class, we had to compose a picture using the dice and cup as well as some pegs and the textured 'fabric'.  I'm reasonably happy with this, maybe getting the camera lower would have made the picture more interesting, rather than looking down on it, but...

Our next home project was to show the rule of thirds, I chose to use my Macro Lens with a pink Crucifix Orchid.  I sprayed water on the flower first, as I think it gives it a bit of oomph to a flower in a photo.  It really is an odd looking thing when you see it up close.  This one earned me chocolates in class as the best pic of the day ;)
